Compare Two Foods Nutrient by Nutrient

Choose two foods and see, nutrient by nutrient, which has more and by how much. Amounts, units, preparation and source records are shown for every value, and a missing value is never treated as zero.

How it works

  1. Search for two foods (common names, plurals, UK and US spellings and small typos all work) or arrive from a food page with one already chosen.
  2. Pick the nutrients to compare and the amount of each food (100 g by default).
  3. Read the result as nutrient cards or switch to the detailed table; open the sources section for the record behind each value.

What to keep in mind

  • Content in the food is compared, not absorption or bioavailability.
  • Foods are compared in the preparation shown; a raw and a cooked record are different foods.
  • A nutrient that one food has no usable value for is listed as not compared, never as zero.
  • Not medical advice.

Where the numbers come from

The same 892 foods and 34 nutrients as the food profiles and rankings, from USDA FoodData Central, UK CoFID and the Canadian Nutrient File, with the source record shown for every value. One calculation engine runs in your browser; nothing you enter is sent anywhere. About our data.

Search

Searches food names, source synonyms and a short synonym list (e.g. beet / beetroot).

Dried foods and spices

Dried foods, powders and spices are measured in a concentrated form, so a spoonful of dried herbs can outrank a whole portion of fresh food per 100 g. To keep the default ranking comparable they are hidden. They are still in the data: switch on “Dried” to include them, or search for one by name.
